We’ve been sitting here far too long
Praying for magic to mend all that’s wrong
For the shoreline to rise up and drown
All our sorrows out there on the sound
It’s our last night together alone on the coast
Romantic intentions no more than a ghost
Forget to wonder for one more day
How we let this all slip so far away
Do you recall how this story unfurled?
Just a guy and a girl who were lost in the world
Bouncing on waves, so fearful we’d drown
Clinging to rocks, we prayed to be found
Jumped in together and swam to the shore
Delirious dreams, couldn’t want something more
And in that moment salvation was nigh
Underneath a dimming northern sky
It must have been fear for how quickly we’d end
It didn’t take long for the hell to descend
We’d argue with words that were sharper than knives
Hide behind walls and pray for our lives
The shouting and screaming devolved into tears
’Til deafening silence fell on our ears
The bloodshot hue that infected our eyes
The signal’s clear, it’s just a long “goodbye”
It’s quite out here alone on the coast
A moment or two left together at most
The silence between us degrades on its own
And leaves a guy and a girl out here all alone

The Insomniac's Lament

The shadow on the wall is moving
Hovering ‘bove my bed
Is there method to this madness
Or is it in my head?
Sleep tonight is hard to find
With your voice flying ‘round my mind
Maybe I should call tonight
And tell you “you were right”
The shadow on the wall is hiding
In the corner of my room
Damn me and my imagination
For filling me with gloom
Sleep tonight is hard to find
With your voice flying ‘round my mind
Maybe I should call tonight
And tell you “you were right”
The shadow on the wall is flying
To where it can’t decide
In the daytime it will vanish
Until then, I’ll have to hide
Sleep tonight is hard to find
With your voice flying ‘round my mind
Maybe I should call tonight
And tell you “you were right”
I’ll just call and tell you “you were right”
Maybe then I’ll make it through the night

Sits alone in an empty room
And the shadows consume
Every last ounce of light
And the day turns to night
Paints a portrait of a girl
In a white dress and some pearls
With a teardrop in her eye
As her lover says “goodbye”
When you gaze upon her face
The tear evaporates
It goes away just like the wine
She’s drawn the silver line
She’s an artist you see
She knows what could be
She can find the light in the dark
Sits beside the winter sea
Bare to the arctic breeze
Snow falling all around
Piling on the ground
A pencil in her hand
She draws some barren land
There’s a stillness in the air
No signs of life anywhere
When you gaze upon that land
Look there among the sand
A tiny flower grows
She’s the only one who knows
She’s an artist you see
She knows what could be
She can find the light in the dark
She’s an artist you see
She knows what could be
She can find the light in the dark

Oh Catherine, won’t you dance with me?
Take a tiny chance on me
Each look you give feels like a lance through me
Oh Catherine, won’t you dance with me?
It seems that every time you come around
My heart leaps up three stories and hits the ground
And I’m incapable of making sound
Every time you come around
See me standing over there?
Six foot two with disheveled hair
Hollow eyes and a vacant stare
A puzzle piece that don’t fit nowhere
And if you wonder why I wrote this note
All the words just stuck in my throat
It’s so painful to emote
Oh Catherine, that’s why I wrote this note
Just a flower on the wall
Wearing these things that make no sense at all
And a face you won’t recall
Why’d you bother to read this at all?
Oh Catherine, might I have this dance?
I’m not looking for some great romance
Merely hoping you’ll take a chance
Oh Catherine, might I have this dance?

I went to California
I needed sun, I warned you
When the green of your eyes met my blue by surprise
There was a storm yeah
We could send letters
Beautiful, let us?
I could illustrate for you my day to day
Would that mend us?
Desire Lines sent me to Badlands
But I am on my way back now
I'm going to love you as I know how
I know how
The shade of Jacaranda
The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter
You mention the name
That fills my lungs with pain, eyes like Panda
I could bottle up this love
Find a stall and serve it up
It won't be the same, my heart's calling your name, love
Desire lines sent me to Badlands
But I am on my way back now
I'm going to love you as I know how
I know how
Desire lines sent me to Badlands
But I am on my way back now
I'm going to love you as I know how
I know how
Desire lines sent me to Badlands
But I am on my way back now
Let me love you as I know how
I know how
Ginger Rogers Road
I was heading home
With an official polling card to vote for you, love
I vote for you, love
I vote for you, love
I vote for you, love
I vote for you, love
I vote for you
