about

This is the first of three songs that tell a larger story throughout the album (the other two being The Day I Die and Ghost in the Cityscape). It's your stereotypical "boy meets girl" story, albeit with a somewhat more obsessive narrator. It started as a ballad, until Chris Anthony started this driving tom groove and gave it some muscle. It's a true melting pot song for me. I pulled from The National, The New Pornographers, The Cure, MGMT, and (apparently) Jimmy Eat World.

lyrics

I can’t sleep, though the coffee’s faded

My swimming heart after years being jaded
So long wounded without being aided

It’s the world to me

It somehow feels like an accident

Or some little detail I failed to represent
But no one here’s asking me to repent
It’s the world to me

It’s the world to me
It’s the world to me

I’m so lost for words

An embrace and a kiss, and a lurch forward
Its the little details I try to recreate

The painting and her perfume

I think of while I lie awake

Until today, I had lost my faith
Walking the earth just like a wraith
Out of the sun and playing it safe
It’s the world to me

It’s the world to me
It’s the world to me
It’s the world to me
It’s the world to me

Counting the days
Counting the hours
Counting the days
Counting the hours
